COSTA MESA, CA, May 6, 2021 – More than 280 people cruised over to the OC Fair & Event Center on Saturday, April 24th to take part in the first drive-through style event in the 28 year history of Share Our Selves (SOS) Wild & Crazy Taco Night. From the safety of their cars, guests visited different chef stations to pick up incredibly unique tacos invented by some of Orange County’s most recognizable names in food. Seven award-winning chefs presented their inspired creations alongside specialty margaritas provided by CaliFino Tequila, Corona beer donated by Harbor Distributing – Reyes Beer Division and dessert from Yogurtland. All proceeds of $21,000 support the SOS Social Services, providing food, emergency financial relief, homeless support services, and more to our low-income and homeless neighbors.
After having to cancel last year’s event due to the COVID-19 pandemic, SOS was thrilled to be able to hold Wild & Crazy Taco Night again while maintaining proper social distancing protocols in the new format. The philanthropic community and chefs also rose to the occasion by embracing the changes in what turned out to be one of the most festive and lively Taco Nights in history. Everyone may have been wearing masks, but the smiles underneath them were unmistakable. In addition to the food and beverage stations where they could interact with the chefs, patrons were greeted by a mariachi band at check-in, picked up swag from Premiere Sponsor Yelp, took car selfies in front of a photo wall, listened to music from a live on-site DJ, and spun a prize wheel for goodies from SOS.
Every attendee also had the opportunity to vote for the “Yelper’s Choice Taco Award” presented by Yelp. This year’s winner was Chef Fonzy De Zuniga from Descanso Restaurant. The guests loved his “Hakuna Matata Taco” with Confit Wild Boar Al Pastor, Guajillo Salsa, Pineapple Chamoy, Bacon Bits, Jicama on Cricket Infused Hand-Made Corn Tortillas, Micro Cilantro and Assorted Edible Flowers.
A huge thank you to our generous chefs, sponsors, event committee, and volunteers for making this year’s Wild & Crazy Taco Night a major success.
