Share Our Selves Serves Over 1,300 families at Thanksgiving Food Distribution

Costa Mesa, CA (November 28, 2022) – Everyone deserves to enjoy a Thanksgiving with family or friends and each year Share Our Selves serves over one thousand bags of groceries and turkeys to our community.

We are extremely grateful to all our community partners, donors, volunteers, and our program sponsor Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris. A special thank you to Chick-fil-A and Flame Broiler for supplying chicken sandwiches and chicken bowls to our housing insecure community members. Due to their collective efforts, our Thanksgiving Food Distribution Program provided 1,300 meals for families facing food insecurity.

“It’s eye-opening to see how many families in our community are living so close to the edge and barely getting by,” said Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris (D-Irvine). “I think it’s heartbreaking to see the need but gratifying to be able to be part of helping people have a Thanksgiving celebration.”

Costa Mesa, CA- Share Our Selves Family Service, which took place on Thursday, November  15, 2018, was a chance for families to kick off the holiday season together by working on projects that helped our homeless neighbors and taught children about the challenges they face. Geared towards families with children elementary school age or younger, this night was unique opportunity to introduce the next generation of OC philanthropists to issues of hunger and homelessness in our community. Throughout the night, our little helpers helped SOS prepare for the holiday season by:

• Sorting 1,900 pounds of canned goods
• Preparing 1,400 bags of Thanksgiving produce
• Packing 250 bags full of hygiene items
• Making 12 blankets to keep our neighbors experiencing homelessness warm
• Creating and decorating dozens of holiday cards and food bags to spread the joy of the season
