The SOS Dental Clinic serves Orange County residents who are uninsured or underinsured and have few options for affordable dental care. The primary goal is to assist patients in preserving and maintaining their natural permanent teeth whenever possible and replacing lost teeth when needed. To reach this goal, the Dental Clinic provides high quality emergency and preventive dental services five days a week. The dental clinic offers education, hygiene, radiographs, fillings, extractions, root canals, dentures, and partials. Many of our patients have never been to a dentist before or have never experienced routine dental care. They often come in pain from infections and are in need of extensive treatment. The SOS dental team restores smiles and confidence in our patients.

The SOS Dental Clinic works with several local academic institutions’ dental programs. Currently, Cypress College, Loma Linda University and Orange Coast Community College all place students at SOS. Since 1999, Cypress Community College Dental Hygiene Students provide dental hygiene one day a week while school is in session. These students repeatedly report how grateful they are for having the opportunity to serve their community and enjoy the diversity of our patient population. SOS Patients also are referred to Cypress College for the maintenance of their oral health where they are placed on a dental hygiene recall program. Dental Students from Loma Linda School of Dentistry are accompanied by their instructor one Sunday per month to provide dental services for SOS patients during those extended hours. Additionally Orange Coast College dental assisting students rotate through SOS Dental Clinic as their externship rotation site. Students get training in all aspect of the dental clinic, from taking radiographs to chair-side assisting and processing instruments.
