SOS Community Health & Wellness Fair
On Thursday, August 13th, the SOS Community Health Center hosted the 2nd Annual SOS Community Health & Wellness Fair, an event aimed at showcasing our services and those of our partner agencies as part of National Health Center Week. Many community members came to enjoy the fun and informative event.
After checking in, attendees were free to peruse the different offerings at the fair. One of SOS’s partners, the Organic Gardening Club, was there with flats of seedlings to distribute, and the children present were thrilled to pick out plants such as strawberries, tomatoes, beans and peppers to take home. The Organic Gardening Club members helped them choose the right plants, and gave instructions on how to take care of them. One of the highlights of the fair was the SOS health screenings booth, where fairgoers could get eligibility screenings for insurance, and health screenings such as Body Mass Index (BMI) and blood glucose. Our health educator was also there providing information on how to improve overall health. Families could sign up for the SOS Back to School Backpack Distribution, as well as a raffle. One of the most popular stops was Kids Corner, where younger fairgoers could color and get their faces painted while their parents looked at the other tables. Also present were our partner agencies 2-1-1, Boys Town, Wells Fargo, Olive Crest, and Public Law Center with information and advice.
