25th Annual Celebrity Chef Dinner

Huntington Beach, CA, October 30, 2015 – Share Our Selves’ 25th Annual Celebrity Chef Dinner was an evening of fun, friendship, and delicious food and wine! The event highlighted 14 outstanding local chefs who are committed to providing food for the most vulnerable populations in Orange County. Approximately 300 guests attended the event at the gorgeous Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort & Spa, which netted over $205,000 to support the SOS Food Pantry. Five mornings a week, SOS volunteer and staff drivers collect retrievable food from restaurants, grocery stores, bakeries, and caterers to distribute to low-income Orange County residents through the SOS Food Pantry.

Guests enjoyed sushi artfully prepared by Chef Don Tahara (Culinary Innovation) and elegant passed hors d’oeuvres from Chef Jeffrey Boullt (SOCIAL Costa Mesa) and Chef Richard Hodge (Orange Hill) while mingling during the reception and silent auction. Guests sipped on pinot noir donated by Matua, and the “Cheers to 25 Years” signature cocktail featuring prosecco donated by Villa Sandi, Chambord and a blackberry. As they checked in, attendees were treated to a performance by the “El Sol Rockers,” a student band from El Sol Science and Arts Academy, a charter school where Share Our Selves operates the SOS-El Sol Wellness Center. The opportunity drawing for roundtrip airlines tickets on Alaska Airlines and a $500 Marriott gift card was won by SOS supporter Rafael Zavala.

The elegant dinner included five exquisite courses paired with specialty wines generously donated by Kitá, McCay, Windsor Oaks, Adelante, and Quady Winery. Each delectable course was prepared by a team of chefs. During the program, SOS CEO Karen McGlinn honored Dr. Gwyn Parry, chair of the SOS Board of Directors, for his 50 years of service to the community by announcing the creation of a new program in his name to transport homeless individuals to needed appointments and services. The live auction, emceed by Zack Krone, featured exciting dining packages from the chefs, and hotly anticipated Super Bowl tickets. Frenzied bidders raised their auction paddles to win an Italian dinner for 10 with wine pairings at Filomena’s Café & Wine Bar with Chef Linda Johnsen, a Chef’s tasting menu with wine pairings for 10 at WATERTABLE with Chef Manfred Lassahn, an elegant dinner for eight with wine pairings at il Barone Ristorante, a dinner extravaganza for 10 with Chef Alan Greeley and Chef Alessandro Pirozzi, and two pairs of Super Bowl tickets generously donated by NFL Official and SOS supporter, Dr. Laird Hayes.

The evening ended with a lively Fund A Need, during which generous guests raised their paddles to make one last donation to SOS. The Fund A Need raised over $67,000 in just over five minutes for the SOS Food Pantry and programs that support the vulnerable and homeless individuals and families in our community.
