2012 Celebrity Chef Dinner

2012 Celebrity Chef Dinner

Share Our Selves’ 22nd Annual Celebrity Chef Dinner was a delicious success! The event highlighted 12 outstanding local chefs who are committed to providing food for the most vulnerable populations in Orange County. Approximately 280 guests attended the event at the gorgeous Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort & Spa which netted over $187,000 to support the SOS Orange Aid Project. The Orange Aid Project collects retrievable food from restaurants, grocery stores, bakeries, and caterers to distribute to low-income Orange County residents.

Guests enjoyed sushi artfully prepared by Chef Ken Mukai (Yoshi’s Sushi) and elegant passed hors d’oeuvres from Mark Gagnon (Newport Beach Plaza) while mingling during the reception and silent auction. The opportunity drawing for a beautiful pair of diamond stud earrings, donated by William Harold Jewelers, was won by Nina Diamant.

The elegant dinner included five exquisite courses paired with specialty wines generously donated by Taft Street Winery, Thompkin Cellars, Francis Ford Coppola Winery, Trefethen Family Vineyards, Windsor Oaks Vineyards & Winery, Martin Ray Winery, and Quady Winery. Each delectable course was prepared by a team of chefs. The live auction, emceed by Jim Nye the Auction Guy, featured exciting dining packages from the chefs, a Golf & Spa Package from Pelican Hill and weeklong stay and fly–fishing at the Montana Sporting Club. Frenzied bidders raised their auction paddles to win a Friday Night Chef Supper for 8 at Five Crowns Restaurant, prepared by Chef Greg Harrison, a feast for 10 prepared by Chef Alessandro Pirozzi (Cucina Alessá) and Chef Alan Greeley (The Golden Truffle) and dinner for 8 prepared by Chef Franco Barone (il Barone Ristorante) and Chef Louie Jocson (Red Table). As the auction ended, Chef Alessandro Pirozzi jumped backed on stage to spontaneously auction of the watch he was wearing – valued at more than $7,000. He told a touching story about coveting the watch as young man in Italy, and finally being able to purchase one of his own as his career took off. Yard House President and CEO, Harald Herrmann, was the winning bidder at $8,500. As he accepted the watch from Alessandro, he whispered that he purchased it for his friend and business partner, Yard House Executive Chef, Carlito Jocson.

Another highlight of the evening was a performance by the El Sol Rockers, a group of students from El Sol Science & Arts Academy in Santa Ana. The lively performers had guest dancing in their seats to such songs as “Hotel California,” “Little Talks,” and “Rolling in the Deep.” In the fall of 2010, SOS collaborated with the El Sol Science and Arts Academy, a charter school, to open the SOS – El Sol Wellness Center. The Center provides social services, screening and urgent care to students and families in the El Sol community.

For the fourth year, the Yard House announced a special promotion during dinner where guests could donate a minimum of $25 to SOS, and the restaurant would provide the donor with a Yard House gift certificate for $25 a month. This generous promotion brought in $27,000 for Share Our Selves.
