18th Annual Wild & Crazy Taco Night


With 28 chefs and 650 guests, Share Our Selves’ 18th Annual Wild & Crazy Taco Night on Thursday, April 28th, at Halecrest Swim & Tennis Club, was a delicious success! Orange County’s finest chefs lent their amazing culinary talents to this community event which raised $34,890 to support the SOS Orange Aid Project – helping feed OC residents at risk of going hungry.

The VIP pre-event was a festive affair. Participating guests received early entrance into the event, and the opportunity to sample every chef’s taco before the rush. Guests enjoyed Patrón and Tres Sietes Tequila margaritas, and wine generously donated by OC Custom Wine. VIP patrons were also entered in a raffle for four great prizes. Kathleen Goldberg and Matt Stewart both won baskets of food items and cookbooks donated by Melissa’s Produce. Hennie Sondel won a basket of wines donated by OC Custom Wine and Bill Matchett won a gift card to Fred’s Cantina.

The general event was as wild & crazy as ever! Guests mingled between the chef stations and bars – enjoying all of the unique tacos, lively chefs and mariachi band. Jim Barr was the lucky of winner of the opportunity drawing prize – a VIP tasting and lunch for 6 at Chateau Montelena in Napa Valley and a two night hotel stay in wine country.

All of the proceeds from the event benefit the SOS Orange Aid Project. The Orange Aid Project collects retrievable food from restaurants, grocery stores, bakeries, and caterers to distribute to low income Orange County residents. Six mornings a week, volunteer and staff drivers collect food from throughout the county and deliver it to SOS. Other volunteers package and bag the food for distribution to families. Five days a week, SOS gives out an average of 250 bags of groceries a day.
