Helping OC High Schoolers Achieve Their Dreams
The goal of SOS’ First in Family College Readiness Program is to send participants to college with the tools, knowledge and skills needed to realize their academic goals.
Each year, the First in Family College Readiness Program assists a group of low-income Orange County graduating high school seniors who have demonstrated determination to achieve academic success despite facing extraordinary circumstances. There is no GPA requirement, as the program seeks to help the students who have been facing numerous challenges and are on track to graduate despite these factors. In 2017, SOS was able to help 32 students.
Participants must be seniors in high school who are on track to graduate and are planning to pursue postsecondary education upon matriculation. The students are low-income, have faced extraordinary challenges to their education as determined by their community liaisons/school site counselors, and are first-generation college students.
